Jesus Christ Superstar, this legendary musical created in the early 70s of the 20th century became spectacularly successful with international audiences of musical theatre. Its creators, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, came up with a rather revolutionary version of the Gospel, rearranged according to the taste of the Hippies. They wrote a rock tale, turning the figure of Christ into the world’s first great idol. Produced in 1971, Jesus Christ Superstar became the first rock opera in the history of musical theatre telling the story of the last week from the life of Jesus of Nazareth. The fresh approach to musical arrangement played by a rock band accompanied by a brass section and Moog synthesizers, won the performance world fame and timeless presence on musical stages around the globe.
The Rampa Theatre artists astound the audience with their own interpretation. Their energy, courage and creativity onstage makes for a show that has the ability to take every spectator onto a personal journey. The young cast present the story of Jesus in a gripping, moving and, at the same time modern and original performance. The minimalistic means of expression create the counter effect, providing the viewers with richness and multiplicity of meanings. The music, the interpretations of the songs, choreography and subtle symbolism invite all viewers to reflect on the performance personally and fill it with interpretation that resonates with their personal experiences.
On 18 March 2016 Warsaw was the witness to its own premiere of “Jesus Christ Superstar” produced by the Rampa Theatre in the interpretation of the young and fierce of the musical world: Santiago Bello, Jakub Wocial, Robert Tondera and Tomasz Filipczak. The cast’s sleepless nights devoted to months of rehearsals have left the audience hungry for a show in giving justice to the legendary piece. On the opening night, from the very first notes, scenes and verses, it became obvious that the Warsaw rock opera by the Rampa Theatre is a great success. […] Seeing the artistry of the Warsaw
performance of this legendary rock opera by Webber, it needs to be said with full responsibility that the future of the Polish musical scene lies in the hands of the new, courageous generation of artists. Thanks to them Jesus Christ, who may not have wanted to be a star, has come back as the Jesus Christ Superstar […]. Robert Stawski / “Świat Elit”
