Lament. In memory of Tadeusz Różewicz. Polish Dance Theatre – Poznań Ballet

Spectacle

23 April Sunday
18:00

Lament can be interpreted in many ways. First of all, it is a multifaceted work relating to personal issues, as well as to mental and emotional condition that concerns the artist while he’s working on his piece of art and simultaneously evaluating it. Secondly, it’s also an individual dialogue between every play creator and Tadeusz Różewicz’s “wound”. The creators of the play are interested in an immersion into the transgressive world that is born between the space of trauma and the space of artistic work. It has both therapeutic and expiatory role. The essence of the confession’s intimacy in Tadeusz Różewicz’s poetry volume became an inspiration for the creators of a theatre play to react and, in consequence, to work on given topics and themes that, in an innovative way, inscribe the work of art as a dramaturgical structure into the semantic and the bodily; the creators of the theatre play think about dichotomy of the world and art.

The formal layout of the theatre play includes two time dimensions: there are characters and their relations. These parallel spaces build a poetic and realistic world that is adequate to the theatrical language that Tadeusz Różewicz used in his artistic creation.

An extremely important role in the performance is also attributed to the fine art, visual, musical, and multimedia layer that does not play just a decorative role, but provides it with meaning.
