Kumernis, Or How the Holy Lady Grew a Beard

Spectacle

23 April Sunday
20:00
Opera Hall

Kumernis… presents a story of a young girl, who, disappointed with love to Cyril and reality around her, decides to become… a saint. An icon of an impressive size – a painting, where the action takes place, constitutes the set design of a play. This is the first play by Musical Theatre, where music is based on human voices only.

Agata Duda-Gracz leaves viewers helpless towards love which is unfulfilled, blasphemous and brutal, dangerously coupled with different love that is mutual for all the characters of the story. Love that is capable of „freeing the soul from all the bullshit.” (teatralny.pl)

In my private theatre ranking, Kumernis… is one of the most interesting theatre propositions that has appeared at the Tri-city stages over the last few years.

What a rollercoaster of means that guts viewers from emotions! Such dramatic stories of characters! It’s hard to stay indifferent to such a phenomenon.

(Dzielnice Wrocławia)

Theatre play about love. Straight, blithely, no guarantees. In the spirit of a famous hymn of love (St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians): „…but the greatest of these is love” (Gazeta Prawna)

Strong and unique theatre play. Audience can be either delighted or disgusted.

(Dzienik Bałtycki)

At times, the play by Agata Duda-Gracz hurts like curling iron burn, at times a viewer wants to look away. But there’s no way one can stay indifferent to it.

(Gazeta Wyborcza)

Contemporary and demanding theatre. But it gives a lot in return. It’s an obligatory theatre lecture for every sensitive viewer.

(Gazeta Świętojańska)

Witty and grotesque scenes, which are stained with folk sentiment, quickly become a scary show of oppressions against women. Their role is reduced to serving men on every level.
