Andrzej Wajda’s Oeuvre in Film Posters

The exhibition showcases Polish posters for Andrzej Wajda’s films. Designed by outstanding artists, representatives of the “Polish School of Posters”, the artworks are characterised by a bold, uncompromising visual language and strong rhetorical figures. Collected for the sake of the exhibition, the posters illustrate a number of phases in the director’s oeuvre.

Andrzej Wajda (1926-2016) is considered one of the most outstanding directors in the history of world cinema. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, Wajda was a filmmaker, theatre director, scriptwriter and a scenographer. Director of four Oscar-nominated films, The Promised Land (1974), The Maids of Wilko (1979), Man of Iron (1981), Katyń (2007), and recipient of an honorary Oscar from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (2000). Man of Iron was awarded the Palme d’Or at the 1981 Cannes Film Festival.
