A documentary meditation upon femininity. In Japan, dead babies are commemorated in a mythological ritual and known as “water children.” Filmmaker Aliona van der Horst follows the unconventional Japanese-Dutch pianist Tomoko Mukaiyama, who – in one of the Japanese villages – conducts a multimedia art project on the subject. Tackling issues related to life and death, the film also features women who earnestly talk at length about their personal experiences connected with fertility, infertility, sexuality, and miscarriages.
